Specification & Evaluation of the New Neurorehabilitation Model
The first sub-project of the Swiss Neurorehab project addresses the main limitations of the current neurorehabilitation system, which is characterized by segmented phases of care and limited home-based treatment. It introduces a paradigm shift in neurorehabilitation by emphasizing the concept of continuity of care, enabling a seamless transition between rehabilitation phases and reinforcing outpatient management, including through telerehabilitation solutions.
The project’s objectives are defined by an integrative model based on four key pillars:
- A clinical perspective, which ensures continuity of therapeutic programs throughout the rehabilitation journey.
- An economic perspective, aiming to standardize cost structures, with consistent reimbursement schemes across both public and private payers.
- A data flow perspective, implementing a system capable of integrating clinical and economic data across the various phases.
- The patient’s perspective, enhancing patient awareness of their rehabilitation journey, particularly after hospital discharge.
The expected outcomes include the development of a novel, patient-centered framework for neurorehabilitation that spans the continuum of care. This framework will be validated against the current model to assess its clinical and socio-economic impact. In addition, it will provide guidelines for implementation. To ensure broad adoption, the model will be ratified by a panel of key stakeholders, including patient associations, scientific societies, and healthcare provider groups.
